Hello and welcome! I’m Martin, and odds are you are here because you are interested in Garcinia Cambogia. I hope this site gives you the answers you are looking for and helps you make an educated decision on whether or not this supplement is right for you.
Please note that even though the site is targeted at my fellow Canadians, the majority of it will be relevant no matter where you are in the world. So, if that is you, don’t click away just yet!
A Little Background
I came across Garcinia extract in mid-2014. I got myself into weight trouble by eating poorly, lack of exercise, and refusing to believe I no longer had the metabolism of a 20-year-old. I needed to shed pounds and ironically was no longer in shape to do so through exercise (you can read my full story here).
Lucky for me (as it turned out), my significant other has a healthy obsession with Dr. Oz, and this was around the time he introduced the western world to Garcinia Cambogia. It was a product being pushed on TV, which alone made me a little sceptical. On top of it, unlike my wife, I have never been a fan of Oz or his wares. I had to admit though, it didn’t feel like I had a lot of other options available to me. So, disgruntledly, I decided to give supplement a shot, but only if it passed my scrutinizing I insisted.
I’m not good at a lot of things (like self-restraint when it comes to food), but what I am excellent at and enjoy is researching and learning things. I went on a hunt for anything and everything Garcinia related that I could get my hands on, secretly hoping to expose it as the fraud I was sure it was. But (to my then disappointment) its story pretty much checked out. And so project diet pill was given the go ahead.
There were a few bumps in the road, as there are with most things. I will get to those shortly. But, fast forward to today, and I am at and maintaining a weight I am very happy with. I firmly believe Garcinia extract has been a huge part of that success. Sure, it’s possible I may have been able to get where I am without it, but in my mind, it made things way easier. So much so, that I still use it today as an appetite suppressant (its greatest benefit in my humble opinion). That self-restraint thing when it comes to food, yes, I still lack it. But at least now Garcinia Cambogia keeps me in check.
This site is all the information I have learned and experience I have gained with Garcinia Cambogia pills, put together into a convenient little package. The info has been useful to a few other people in my life, so I thought why not share it. Plus, building the site gave me an excuse to research and learn another new thing: how to put up a website!
I try my best to cover everything, the good and the not so good. The not so good pretty much entirely had to do with buying the product, and not actually using it. If you haven’t already found a decent place to buy from, you may be interested in hearing about my experience. There are ways you can minimize the odds of purchasing an inferior product from a poor seller. I did eventually find a source I am quite happy with (you can check them out here if you’re interested), but it did take me a few tries to get there.
Again, I hope this site gives you the info you’re looking for, and if there is something specific you would like to know that I don’t go into, please leave a comment below. I’ll do my best to help you out.
Let start off by quickly going over the benefits of Cambogia Garcinia. It makes you lose weight, we all know that. But how? There are three steps. First, it stops your body from turning carbs (especially simple carbs) into fat. Second, it suppresses your appetite. Third, it stops you from turning to food in response to feeling down or depressed. So, you will not overeat during your regular meals, reduce your urges to snack, and stop emotional eating. That’s a pretty good deal. That’s a pretty good deal.
You can lose weight just by taking Garcinia Cambogia extract, without exercising or changing your diet. That is how I initially started. I’m pretty sure I would have eventually reached my goals continuing in that way. It just would have taken longer.
Several weeks in, encouraged by some positive results, I did start adding exercise into my routine and slowly improved my nutrition. My weight loss noticeably sped up. If you can, I would recommend you do the same. It can only help. I’ll go into more detail later, but the Paleo diet is an amazing match. That being said, not everyone can make those changes, and that is perfectly fine too. Garcinia will have you covered either way.
The supplement also has a few lesser known benefits. These weren’t that important to me, but may be to you. It improves your performance and endurance during exercise. It lowers insulin levels, potentially making it beneficial for people suffering from diabetes. It can also improve your cholesterol levels by reducing what are called triglycerides and LDL (or the bad cholesterol to you and me). Please note that if you are already taking medication for insulin or cholesterol levels, I strongly recommend you speak with your doctor before taking Garcinia. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.
That was a pretty quick summary of the benefits. If you’d like some more info, check out the more detailed benefits page (where I also cover the few side effects).
How It Works
Natural Garcinia Cambogia is made from a small pumpkin like fruit from Southeast Asia (the fruit is also often called tamarind). It is rare to find the fruit in North America, but did I have the “pleasure” of trying it once. I have to say that I am glad the pills do not inherit its flavor. I was not a fan. But back to the important things. The active ingredient in Garcinia extract (responsible for all the benefits) comes from the fruit’s rind and is called HCA (which stands for hydroxycitric acid). Now, for the slightly more technical stuff.
HCA blocks an enzyme called citrate lyase, which is typically used by the body to produce fat from carbohydrates. Blocked enzyme equals less fat. Simple.
HCA also increases the amount of a brain chemical called serotonin. When the level of serotonin is high, we feel full and are not interested in eating. But serotonin also has another function. Low levels of it are associated with depression and unhappiness. So, by boosting serotonin levels, HCA will both decrease how much we eat by making us feel full quicker and control emotional eating by keeping us happier. That too is pretty awesome.
One more benefit of HCA is that it makes it easier for our bodies to use glucose efficiently. Glucose is the sugar that cells need for energy. When glucose is used more efficiently, we have more energy and better endurance. All these effects snowball together and combine to create one super supplement.
How To Use It
There are many Garcinia brands. Depending on the exact ingredients, how to take it will often differ, and sometimes significantly so. For this reason, I am only comfortable speaking about the pills that I take myself. I don’t want to potentially mislead you about any of the other products. If you still have not picked a brand, or feel the one you’re using is maybe not quite up to par, this is the one I use. Tried and tested.
Premium Garcinia Cambogia should be taken 30 to 60 minutes before larger meals. We usually have three of those per day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. My supplements contain 60% HCA, and each pill is 1000mg. The recommended dosage is one pill, three times a day. So, I took one pill before each larger meal. Simple and easy to stick with.
Note that you should never exceed 3000mg per day. It is also a good idea to take a two-week break after every three months of taking Garcinia extract. Many won’t have to take it for that long, but some, like myself, may keep using it for appetite control even after reaching our ideal weights.
You should begin to notice positive effects of taking the supplement after 3 to 4 days. The benefits should fully kick in after two weeks. As I already mentioned, Garcinia extract can be effective just on its own. Other than my experience, I have heard many others claim the same things.
However, if you can, try to include some exercise and healthy eating. It will speed up the weight loss significantly, and because you will see results quicker, it will be a lot easier to stay motivated and see things all the way through. For a few additional tips, including what to best eat to maximize results, please see the more in-depth how to use page.
Does It Work
I can confidently say that, as long as you are using a quality product and taking it correctly, it does. My experience aside, it is also hard to argue with the many success stories I’m sure we have all run into.
The way I have always thought about this is that if the supplement didn’t work, wouldn’t we just stop hearing about it? If Garcinia didn’t consistently get results, the news would spread very quickly. Once it did, why would anyone continue to use it? If nothing else, the fact that this product is still going strong after many years of being on the market is proof enough for me.
But then I also know my personal history and results. I lost the weight I wanted to, I feel way better about myself, and everyone around me sees those changes too. Even if we were to assume that, as some claim, Garcinia doesn’t do anything and is nothing but a placebo (which I don’t believe). Honestly, I wouldn’t care. I don’t harm my body by taking it, and I get the results I want. For me, that is all that matters.
Where To Buy It
In the beginning, I did have a few problems buying pure Garcinia Cambogia in Canada. Sadly, I was burned not once, but twice. I’m still a little bitter about the whole experience. But, long story short (and I probably should have known this from the beginning), the place to buy is from a well-established online source. Period.
First and foremost, make sure that you are buying a quality product, one that contains 50% HCA or more. The pills should contain absolutely no fillers, binders, or any other artificial ingredients. There are a surprising amount of crap products out here, pardon the language. People will try to make a quick buck and advertise a high level of HCA content when in reality it is just not true. Also, don’t walk but run away from anything made in China or India. Stick to things made in North America.
The site you buy from should be well-established, have reliable customer support and a good refund policy. This is in case you run into any issues with delivery or, after trying it, decide that Garcinia extract maybe isn’t right for you after all. I believe the odds of the latter are slim, no pun intended, but it’s always good to have a backup plan.
A 30 day refund period is what I aimed for. That gives plenty of time to try the supplement and decide how well it’s working. Decent return periods are slightly more important here in Canada. Most supplements will ship from the US, meaning the trip there and back will take a little longer. Some retailers I have seen offer as little as seven days to claim a refund, which makes trying the product without fully committing to it pretty much impossible.
If you are generally nervous about buying online, a simple trick is to use a prepaid credit card. If you put a small enough amount on it, you will be protecting yourself from potentially dishonest sellers who charge over and above what the transaction was supposed to be (sadly, I hear these type of stories from time to time). Doing this can go a long way towards putting your mind at ease. If you are interested, the where to buy page covers my buying process in much greater detail.
So who did I decide to go with in the end? This is the link to the retailer I currently use. Third time is a charm, right? Are there better sources out there? Quite possibly and almost certainly. But all I can say is I am currently a happy customer getting the results I want. So, this product is the one I can confidently recommend.
I hope the information above has been at least somewhat helpful. Let me know if it was and if you have any questions. I will do my best to help you out. If you’re still on the fence about Garcinia Cambogia Canada (or wherever else in the world you may be), don’t be. Why? Because it works, and because it will be a huge (almost unfair) advantage in helping you reach the weight loss goals that seem oh so daunting.
